Internet Basics: An Affiliate Program is Like Tom Sawyer’s Approach to Painting a Fence
Friday 16 May 2008 @ 10:07 pm

Ever read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer? (If not, you can download it for FREE at http://www.planetpdf.com/planetpdf/pdfs/free_ebooks/The_Adventures_of_Tom_Sawyer_NT.pdf)

In one of Tom’s adventures (Chapter 2), he’s supposed to be hard at work painting a fence.

But why paint a fence when you can get others to do it for you? So Tom convinces a bunch of boys into painting the fence for him while he just sits back and enjoys the day.

That’s what an affiliate program is like.

An affiliate program enables online businesses (the Merchants) to get other people (the Affiliates) to sell their products for them. The Merchants set up affiliate programs where Affiliates can sign up to copy links and banners ads that the Affiliates then put on their own websites.

When people browse to one of the Affiliates’ websites, they see the link or banner ad, click on it, and end up on a Merchant’s website. If the people go on to buy something, the Merchant gives the Affiliate a portion of the sale.

It’s like having a sales force that voluntarily signs up and works for you. And it works really well on the Internet.

And that’s why an affiliate program is like Tom Sawyer’s approach to painting a fence.

Is It Safe To Start An Exercise Program?
Friday 16 May 2008 @ 9:56 pm

I think the real question is “How safe is it for you not to exercise?” Did you know that obesity has just replaced smoking as the number one cause of health related problems? That’s incredible! Sorry to say, but that means we are a bunch of fat, inactive people! Back in the day when people milked cows and planted their own food for exercise, you would never hear of something like this. Think about that the next time you can’t exercise because of a hard day at the office! O.k. before I tear off too far into a rant lets look at some of the real concerns you should tend to before you start an exercise program.

Before you exercise, go see your doctor-Get a check up. Make sure you get a blood pressure test and a blood test. Have your heart condition checked and make sure all the other stuff is done and o.k. Some people mistakenly hold back serious effort in the gym for too long because they are afraid something may be wrong with them. If you get a check up and receive a clean bill of health, that’s one more excuse gone!

Before you exercise, note your pains and past injuries- Your trainer will need this to know how to design your exercise program. If you are going to do it on your own, you will be able to do some research as to which exercises are the safest and most beneficial for you and what you should avoid.

Before you exercise, note your medications - A large part of exercise and fitness these days involves sports supplements. It’s a good thing to know if any medications you’re on will interact adversely with these supplements. I.E. Blood pressure meds mixed with ephedrine, caffeine and exercise is not a good idea!

Before you exercise, do the PAR-Q (physical activity readiness questionnaire). It covers most questions that should be addressed before starting an exercise program. Most gyms stock these forms for liability reasons and it shouldn’t be hard to get a hold of one.

Last point; if you are just starting out and have a lot of questions about exercise and your fitness, invest in a personal trainer. It is the most sure fire way to make sure that you are doing all your exercises correctly and that you will be truly safe when you start your exercise program.

Understanding Secondary Trauma
Friday 16 May 2008 @ 8:44 pm

Secondary trauma can occur when you see or hear about a traumatic event. Secondary trauma or vicarious trauma does not happen to you directly, but you feel its effects. You might have experienced secondary trauma when you watched the news reports after 9-11. More recently, many people were rightly disturbed in the aftermath of hurricanes Rita and Katrina. People can even experience vicarious trauma from watching the news or graphic scenes in movies.

People who work directly with trauma can also experience secondary trauma. Nurses and physicians, emergency personnel, therapists, can all be deeply affected by what they see and hear.

If you think you might have secondary trauma, look for these symptoms:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Sadness
  • Low self-esteem
  • Emotional exhaustion
  • Trouble making decisions
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Difficulty remembering things
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches or body aches
  • Changes in sleep habits
  • Changes in eating habits
  • Increase in addictive behaviors
  • Withdrawing from others
  • Some people feel that developing secondary trauma is a sign of weakness. If you really care about others, trauma will affect you. It is normal to be affected by trauma. Graphic descriptions of victimization or suffering can leave lasting impressions on our hearts and minds.

Although any of us can develop secondary trauma, people are more prone to secondary trauma if their lives are “out of balance.” If you are experiencing the signs and symptoms of secondary trauma, it is a good idea to look at your life in terms of balance. Do you have a good balance of work and play? Do you get enough social interaction and solitude? Are you exercising regularly? Do you spend sufficient time relaxing? Are you eating healthful meals most of the time?

The impact of secondary trauma can be reduced by talking with others. Reach out to a friend, co-worker, or family member. As in acute stress disorder and PTSD, therapists have special treatment modalities that can help reduce the impact of secondary trauma.

If you find that you are bothered by news reports, you may want to go on a “news fast” and stop watching news, reading newspapers, etc. Give yourself the gift of unscheduled time and create space for peace and relaxation. Nurture intimate relationships with those who are important to you.

It is important to make your own mental health a priority. Know your own limits. Often, in our desire to help others, we forget to help ourselves.

CIA Looking for Homosexuals; Bend Over and Do It For Your Country
    Friday 16 May 2008 @ 4:05 pm

The central intelligence agency known as the CIA is looking for more homosexuals to fill up its ranks and if you wish to bend over and do it for your country that might be a great job for you. Male homosexuals are good relationship builders like women and they can get a little bit of action on the side while getting paid to screw foreigners who might be a threat to our country.

Additionally it makes sense for homosexuals to work outside the country and spread AIDS in other locations rather inside the United States. Some people may think this is a derogatory, anti-homosexuals comment, however since it is the truth and they are a very promiscuous group this could indeed reduce the AIDS crisis here at home if they work in foreign nations.

Homosexuals working for the CIA will be giving back to society by doing a very important job and they can spy up on their targets in a very personal way and make sure they are carrying any contraband in various cavity regions of the body. This is one way the American people can support the homosexual population by hiring them and giving them a job with benefits.

Many employers don’t want have anything to do with homosexuals but are in fear that they might get sued if they do not hire them. At least this way they will be working for a government agency who really needs them and wants them so very badly. Oh la la, as they CIA says. The CIA is looking for homosexuals and you should bend over and do it for your country. Consider this in 2006.

    Dreaming of a Corporate Christmas?
    Friday 16 May 2008 @ 3:54 pm

What does Christmas mean for your company? For most it means
sending out a whole load of Christmas cards to their
clients, wishing them a ‘Merry Christmas’ and a ‘Happy New
Year’. How nice! However, unless Rudolph-the-Red-
Nosed-Reindeer is your logo; the cards you send are unlikely
to have a lasting impact. That’s a whole lot of envelope
    licking for very little return.

“It lets your customers know that you care”

I would not for one second suggests that businesses
shouldn’t send Christmas cards to their clients. It’s good
practice. It lets your customers know that you care. But
there has to be a way to maximize impact. A way of ensuring
your card and your business is remembered by everyone that
sees it. Good news. There is!

    “Improving brand recognition”

Why not customize the cards you send with your own company
logo? It’s simple and it works, leaving a lasting
impression, improving both brand recognition and customer
loyalty in the years to come. I am sure that you are
thinking, “The local card shop doesn’t sell cards with my
logo!” Well, that’s the beauty of the internet, it provides
every service you could ever need.

    “All businesses can benefit”

One of the best things about this service is that there is
no minimum order limit. This means that all businesses can
benefit, big or small. Furthermore, your logo can be accepted
in most formats, including: JPG, GIF, TIF, PDF and
EPS. However, you will have to ensure that the graphics
submitted are at minimum 300dpi (dots per inch). This is
simply to ensure a quality product; I know you wouldn’t want
to send your highly valued customers anything less. As with
many things in business, planning is the key. You should
expect a gap of 2 - 3 weeks between placing your order and
receiving your cards. Considering the quality of the product
and the potential benefits, this is very little time to
    wait.

    “Success and high profits”

Despite what their Christmas lists might say, we all know
what the average business owner wants from Santa - success
and high profits in the years to come! So make sure your
corporate Christmas wish comes true and send logo branded
    Christmas cards to your clients!

Facial and Body Clay Masks: All you ever wanted to know about Facial Clay Masks
    Friday 16 May 2008 @ 3:43 pm

Facial Clay Masks are part of a complete skin care regime and should be included at least twice a week in your daily skin care regime. There are however clays, and then there are high quality, premium cosmetic/beauty clays.

Argiletz clays are amongst the best clays on the market today. They are free from any contaminants and have many beneficial effects on the skin, making them ideal clays to use for facial and body clay masks. But what exactly are these facial clay masks and what do they actually do to your skin that is so beneficial? In this article we will take a close up look at facial clay masks, how they work, what makes them an essential part of your skin care regime and how your skin benefits from their use.

    What are clays?

Clays are naturally occurring substances containing minerals, trace elements and nutrients. Clay is a part of most soils and gardeners the world over are very familiar with the properties of clay rich soils.

In the beauty industry however, clays are used in different ways, however, the properties of the clays don’t change, their applications however, do.

Argiletz clays are high quality sun dried clays that come from Argiletz, a region in France, where they are extracted at specific depths in areas that are free from contamination. They are quarried under strict conditions to ensure that their mineral content and purity is retained.

Green Argiletz clay for example is a bio-mineral, which is naturally concentrated, containing various mineral salts and trace elements including: Silica, aluminium, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, selenium, cobalt, manganese and many others.

What do facial clays do? and How do they Work on the skin?

These mineral salts, trace elements and other nutrients listed above have a detoxifying, nourishing, restoring and soothing effect on the skin.

Clay is naturally absorbent and draws toxins from deep in the skin’s tissues, thus cleansing and detoxifying the skin. Its slight grainy texture exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface layer of your skin, while the nutrients contained in the clay have a toning and firming effect on the skin.

By adding plant hydrosols such as Melissa, Niauoli, Rose and others, the natural benefits of the different facial/body clays can be further enhanced.

Types of Clays used in Facial/Body Clay Masks by Wildcrafted Herbal Products

There are many clays and types of clay, however in this article I will focus on what are arguably the best quality clays on the market today. The different Argiletz clays used in Wildcrafted Herbal Products’ facial/body clay masks.

    Green Clay

The most absorbing of the Clays, Green Clay is generally used as a Face Mask for tissue repair, drawing toxins from the skin and to normalise excessive secretions of oil or sweat. Applied as a Face or Body Mask, facial clay masks cleanse, exfoliate, smoothe and soften the skin. Green clay is especially good at drawing toxins out.

    White Clay

White clay is a mild clay used for normal skin. It has similar properties as green clay and is suitable for Face and Body Masks for young and sensitive or mature and delicate skins. Applied as a powder, White Clay is an excellent body deodorant and a natural alternative to talcum powder. White Clay is the Clay of Choice for use as a Hand Mask to soothe and soften dry hands.

    Red Clay

Red clay is high in iron oxide, hence its colour, and helpful for broken capillaries, bags under the eyes and sensitive skin types. It is used for toning the bust, thighs, stomach and upper arms. Red clay is an oily, mildly absorbent clay and is used for Face and Body Masks in cases of dry, sensitive or mature skin.

    Pink Clay

This Clay is intended for use in a maintenance programme for the face and body. The softening effect of Pink Clay refines the skin’s texture while toning the epidermis (outer layer of the skin).

    Yellow Clay

Yellow clay is used for normal skin and has similar properties as green clay. This clay is derived from the iron oxide, Xanthoria Parietina. Yellow Clay is generally used for Face and Body Masks, particularly in cases where the condition of the skin and body needs revitalising. Yellow Clay is recommended for most skin types to restore tired and neglected skin.

Note: Be careful of coloured clays, there are many manufacturers that add dies to clay to produce artificially coloured clays, which do not have the same properties of effects and may well do you more harm than good. So choose carefully

What are the effects of Natural Clays on the skin?

As indicated above, Argiletz Clays are pure, mineral-rich clays that help detoxify, cleanse, tone and revitalise your skin when used in masks and/or in body/face creams. They also have a nutritive effect on the skin. It is important to choose the right facial clay for your skin.

    How to use the clays?

Wildcrafted’s Earth Medicine Facial Clays should be used once or twice a week, prior to toning and moisturising, as a special cleansing skin treatment. The gel based clay blends can be used as a gentle, conditioning exfoliant scrub, whilst the cream based clay blends can be used as a mask to nourish, moisturise and hydrate.

    Masks

Wildcrafted’s Cream based clays are designed for use as masks. Apply sufficient Clay Crme to the face and neck and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off in warm water.

    Facial Gel Wash

Wildcrafted’s Gel based facial clay washes are designed for use as gentle exfoliant and toning scrubs. Simply moisten the face and neck with warm water and apply a small amount of Clay Gel and massage into a light foam for 2 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
