Creativity Management - Productivity As A Job
Saturday 28 February 2009 @ 2:00 pm

Creativity can be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst innovation can be defined as idea selection, development and commercialisation.

There are other useful definitions in this field, for example, creativity can be defined as consisting of a number of ideas, a number of diverse ideas and a number of novel ideas.

There are distinct processes that enhance problem identification and idea generation and, similarly, distinct processes that enhance idea selection, development and commercialisation. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted.

Productivity as a job

It is often the case that individuals “wait for inspiration” before they embark on their creative and innovative endeavours. However, this misses the mark for a number of reasons:

a) Engagement in the task gets the mind working on the task at various cognitive levels - problems are identified and subconsciously the mind searches for solutions. When ideas then arrive, they are labelled as insight or inspiration. Insight or inspiration is increased in frequency and duration when the creator or innovator dives into the task.

b) The key to quality is prolific output. By treating the endeavour as a job, small goals and incremental deadlines increase output to a far greater degree than a “do your best” approach or a “I’ll do it when I’m ready” approach.

c) There are a significant number of blocks working on the mind at any one time. Together this is called “resistance.” Unless a conscious and sustained effort is made to counter them, they remain obstacles.

d) Climbing the experience curve requires energy expenditure. By treating the endeavour as a job, the experience curve is attacked and overcome much more rapidly.

e) All of the above do not detract from the requirement of motivation, which includes aspects such as: joy for the endeavour, competency expansion, feasibility, self-determination etc.

Tracking a Lost Vehicle
Saturday 28 February 2009 @ 4:06 am

New age cars are these days equipped with a sophisticated range of vehicle tracking systems that make it easier for the police to trace your car if it gets stolen

A1 Auto Insurances, like many other car insurers offers you attractive discounts on their premiums if your car is equipped with a vehicle tracking system.

Like the purchase of a new mobile comes with recurring costs of talk times, similarly these vehicle tracking devices also have a monthly service fee associated with it.

  1. Teletracer is also one of the many systems for vehicle tracking device that comes at a lower cost and doesn’t employ a GPS. However, it sends out signals that are received by a receiving station. This requires you to pay them a monthly fee.
  2. The most popular vehicle tracking device in the UK is Lojack. It isn’t equipped with a GPS feature and hence doesn’t come with a monthly fee tagged to it. It has a receiver and a transponder which helps you catch hold of the thief when your car is stolen.

Although it comes at a little extra cost, a Global positioning system can help you track your car through a map on the central monitoring station. It also comes with a voice based feature where you can talk to the centralized monitoring operator.

Humanity is Striving for Perfection - Are we Judging Ourselves too Harshly?
Friday 27 February 2009 @ 11:01 pm

What does it mean to be perfect? Many people strive for ‘perfection’ in their life, through their work, their family, and their love lives. All the time we hear about, or are even called ‘perfectionists’, and usually in a negative context. There have been many great humans throughout history that we choose to revere and respect because of their virtuous deeds, but were they perfect? It probably comes down to how you look at it, ‘it’ being perfection.

Nobody’s Perfect is a cool motto that appeared on Lisa Simpson’s hat when TV’s ‘The Simpsons’ (you had better know who they are) family went to Australia. Could imperfections be paradoxically perfect in themselves? If you look close enough at all of the great names in recorded history you will see that besides their crowning achievements they also carried with them the faults and mistakes of the average person. John Lennon beat his first wife, Martin Luther King Jr. had extramarital affairs…Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Einstein, and even Mother Theresa must have done things that were socially or morally unacceptable.

So, is striving for perfection a pipe-dream when we realize that no matter what our lives are destined to become, there will always be a balance of negative influence in our actions? What about the Buddha? Buddha means ‘perfect one’, and when he supposedly achieved ‘enlightenment’ he no longer had imperfections. But look at what he had to go through to get to that feeling/awareness. Was his life up to that point flawless? No way. If you asked the Buddha about his life I’m sure he’d say right away that he only learnt what he did by making mistakes.

Could it be that we are all already perfect? Everything in the Universe is scientifically balanced. Negative electrons, positive protons, and neutral neutrons do everything they can to balance out in any and every situation imaginable. By that logic, all of our faults and imperfections exist inherently as part of our perfection. How could we ever do the most important work in life (learning to love), if we already know everything?

Everyday we go to work and we do our utmost to do the best job possible. We want things to be perfect. Supposedly no circle ever drawn has been perfectly round. I believe it’s the same with people. You might now be asking, ‘If we are all inherently flawed and have no possibility of attaining a perfect state, what’s the use in even trying? The answer is as simple as two Hydrogen atoms coming together with one Oxygen atom to make a single molecule of water.

We may always have faults, but if we do our best with altruistic intention driving us forward, we will make the world a better place. You may still obsessively eat chocolate but if you write up the achievable ‘2050 Plan for World Peace’, people are going to forgive you. On the other hand, if you sit at home hating yourself because of your chocolate addiction, you aren’t going to help the world, and in essence you’re not going to achieve the balance of energy (both positive and negative) that you require to attain satisfaction in your life.

Within paradox there is always the other side of the coin and so I have to suggest yet another perspective. If everything in the Universe is already balanced then doesn’t that imply that no matter what we do, good or bad, we will balance out evenly? It depends upon what size picture you’re analyzing. If you’re looking at human society as a whole you might choose to believe that for every person that is a little bit more negative than positive (with their thoughts and actions), that there will be another person in the world who is a little bit more positive than negative. If more of humanity is positive than negative, maybe the balance of energies could show up elsewhere, like in our surrounding environment?

The point of this article is to get you to question your desire for a perfect life. Maybe it already is. Maybe you are already aware of it. If life was all happiness and joy we wouldn’t know what happiness and joy were, as we’d have nothing to compare them to. If we never made mistakes, how would we know we were even learning anything? What would a life be without the experience of learning? What would it amount to?

There’s no need to try and be perfect. Either you already are perfect, or you will never achieve perfection. There is a point in doing the best you can everyday, even if today that simply means getting out of bed. If everyone who ever lived had doubted their abilities because they had faults, nothing great would ever have been done. If everyone compared themselves to people who have already come and gone and achieved greatness, then no one would have had the courage to follow their dreams, goals, and purposes. If Einstein had compared himself to Da Vinci, and subsequently been scared into inaction, we would never have gained the knowledge that he shared with the rest of us. Einstein wasn’t perfect. My bet is he probably had a few problems with his personal hygiene, you know, cutting his nostril and ear hairs. Still, this isn’t often commented upon compared to the Theory of Relativity. He could also have gotten down on himself for being a ‘lowly’ patent clerk. I’m glad he didn’t.

You were born into the Universe, and you were blessed with some great skills and talents, even if you haven’t discovered them yet. Like me you have probably stopped yourself before taking a big risk in your life because you compared yourself to one of your heroes, gurus, icons, or role-models. You most probably doubt you’re abilities at times, and because of that doubt you don’t attempt an opportunity that life has given you. Forget those other people. They aren’t better than us. They are, and were the same. They are a perfect balance of energies. The only difference is that despite their perfect imperfections, they still did their best to work for the betterment of the world. It’s time we all realized that we were put here for a reason, even if it’s only a small anonymous role to play, and that attaining perfection is as simple as doing the best that you can to change a tiny part of the world.

How to Bounce Back
Friday 27 February 2009 @ 10:52 pm

Q: “I’ve suffered a few setbacks and disappointments in the last year, and seem to be bogged down in them. A business that I began failed and my long-term girlfriend left me for someone else. I want to move past this, but just don’t seem able to bounce back. What I can I do?”

Let’s pretend for a few moments that we are in a seminar, and let me ask for a show of hands:

How many of you have ever been rejected by anyone, for anything, at any time in your life?

How many of you have ever suffered a defeat over something large or small, for any reason, at any time in your life?

How many of you would not raise your hand no matter what I asked? Sorry, just a little seminar humor there.

All of us have suffered rejection and defeat at some point in our lives. Loss of jobs, broken relationships, deaths, disappointments, or just the ups and downs of every day living.

Motivational speaker W. Mitchell has been quoted as saying “It’s not what happens to us that matters, it’s what we do about it that makes the difference.”

With that quote in mind, I’ve noticed that when presented with rejection and/or defeat, most people have one of two reactions. They either let it beat them or they rise above it.

I call these two responses “dropping dead” and “bouncing back.” Let’s take a closer look at each of these two choices.

How to “Drop Dead”

Believe that this event defines you and your life now and forever. In other words, it’s a final judgment of who you are.

Lose perspective. Focus only on what happened to you and nothing else.

Organize your thoughts, feelings, what you talk about, in other words, your whole life, around what has happened. Talk about nothing else. Bore your friends.

Take a “dead roach approach.” Flat on your back with your legs in the air, no power, giving up.

Quit . Give up. Throw in the towel. Or whatever losing metaphor you can find.

Believe in your heart that you have failed. Even worse, define yourself as a failure.

Focus on the past, something you can do nothing about.

Go it alone.

How to “Bounce Back”

Decide to. It was Abraham Lincoln who said, “People are about as happy as they decide to be.” I think it’s the same with bouncing back. I realize that sounds so simple, but that’s really where it starts.

Implement the principle of NEXT!!! This one comes from the world of sales. The top sales people in any field have trained themselves to handle rejection by saying “next” to themselves. In this context “next” means to move on into the future and not get stuck in the past, even the recent past.

Implement the principle of Open Doors. God never closes one door without opening several others. We have to look for them, however.

Focus on the present and future, two things you can do something about. The best way to predict the future is to create it as close as you can to the way you would like it to be.

Install a new belief that says I can only fail if I quit or if I don’t learn something from the experience. In this way you have to try really hard to fail, sort of like failing gym class.

Get the support you need.

Make this two crucial distinctions:

Make a place for what has happened in your life. It may stink, not be fair, and you may hate it. But it did happen, and denying it will only come back to bite you later on.

Put it in it’s place. Which is behind you, in the past. Think of the event like a chapter in a book that you do not have to read again and again.

Become a bouncer!. A bouncer is someone who has taken a huge leap past just merely surviving. Some folks consider it a compliment to be called a survivor. Spare me. Let’s bounce back and live our best life!

Obtain London Theatre Tickets on the Web
Friday 27 February 2009 @ 9:27 pm

City weekends away always seem like such a great plan - to leave behind habits & habitats, experiencing something new; perhaps listen to something unique. However, without an idea, weekends away can every now and then fall somewhat flat, a case of strolling around a big town, regularly darting into retail shops & distinguishing sculptures. This may possibly be adequate if you are satisfied to go with the flow, conversely if you prefer being busy and ‘doing’ something then West End theatre show breaks can be an outstanding choice. Experience the West End on a budget with cheap theatre tickets for top London shows.

Even though you could endlessly fly to Spain, why would you? There is a great amount of talent & joy much more closer to you in the Capital. Famously, the City includes a large mixture of excellent theatres, most of which can be found located in or around the West End - a place in which everyday life looks to become a little better & all things turns out right at the end of the day; or at least if not, you can get misplaced in enjoyable moments & feel a considerably better human being.

Although for luxurious, light-hearted entertainment during a London theatre break as a rule for the most part people attend musical plays. These can be anything from the heart-wrenching disaster of Les Misérables to the rollerblading spectacle that is unquestionably Starlight Express. But enthusiasts of rock and roll, doo-wap and men & girls in very tight leather will only be concerned about one choice - Grease. Taking the world by storm in the 1970s, this well-known musical show has never failed to astonish, transferring with great ease to the silver screen. Including a handsome John Travolta and a dreadfully thin Olivia Newton-John, the motion picture went on to be nominated for an Oscar.

A great many people will have time in their heart taken up by Grease, no matter what age you are, or indeed what gender. It is 1 of those wonderful motion films that is enjoyed by various age groups; likewise the musical show is enjoyable for both young and old alike. The ease and liveliness of Rydell High is contagious, the late nineteen fifties attire are desirably retro, & the music numbers are so catchy that you’ll be singing in your seats.

How To Find The Best Recommended Treadmill’s
Thursday 26 February 2009 @ 7:10 am

In today’s increasingly fitness orientated world, treadmills can be an easy and convenient way to exercise without spending hours running around busy streets or parks allowing you the opportunity to acquire and maintain a good level of fitness even if you choose to exercise while watching a favorite soap opera or day time talk show. Treadmills can be expensive and before purchasing one it is highly recommended and necessary to make sure that it is both within your financial budget and that the treadmill is capable of meeting your fitness needs, expectations and desires. There are many ways to find out which are the best recommended treadmills, to include reading exercise magazines and visiting fitness orientated web sites. Many of these include a exercise machine review section which will guide you towards the best machine for your price range.

Some of the more upscale and expensive treadmills come with a large amount of extra features, which although useful if you use them, are not entirely necessary and could mean that you may be paying more than you need to when buying your treadmill. However, if you want a more expansive machine some treadmills do come with features, which can be extremely useful and are well worth paying the extra money for when it comes time to pay. Many of the best recommended treadmills come with added safety features and pushbutton controls, which are much more convenient than on some of the cheaper or less well designed machines.

Depending on your budget, and the range of features that you require you can pay as a little as $300 or less or over $1000 for a treadmill. Whether you are looking to buy the cheaper or the more expensive option it is still worth researching the best recommended treadmills in your price range. Even some of the cheap treadmills, although not as sophisticated as their more expensive rivals, are built to a good standard and are perfectly adequate for normal daily use. One particular feature that you definitely want to check on is the length of the manufactures warranty, which in some cases can be as little as 90 days.

When you’re looking at the reviews for the best recommended treadmills another important consideration is the stability of the treadmill itself. If the running belt is to narrow this places your feet in an awkward position and doesn’t position them to be far enough apart allowing you to run safely and in a stable fashion. Additionally, if you’re constantly concentrating on maintaining stability, then it will make the whole process of exercise a good deal more tiring, stressful and less enjoyable. You want to also be sure to double check the recommended or allowable weight limit on the treadmill machines that you are considering purchasing, especially on some of the cheaper models. Of course this won’t be a problem if you don’t weigh very much, but if you’re heavier and looking to start running in order to reduce your weight it could be important to know if the weight limit for the machine is very low in order to prevent any sports or running injury from taking place.

Whether you are spending $300 or $1000 on a treadmill or indoor running machine it is important to make sure that you get good value for your money and that the machine will do what you require safely and effectively. In order to meet this requirement it is worth taking a little time and trouble to check through the various web sites and magazines to make sure that the machine you are thinking of buying is the best of its type at your available budget.

Some time spent researching this information before you buy will pay dividends in the long run and ensure that the machine you buy is really one of the best recommended treadmills.

Overcoming Discouragement
Tuesday 24 February 2009 @ 11:04 pm

We have all had times in our lives where someone discouraged our beliefs or even passions in life. Maybe someone told you that you couldn’t do something because of whom you are or where you come from. Maybe they told you that you weren’t “good” enough or that you will never amount to anything. Those comments however small they may seem could actually become loud voices in your head eating away at your self esteem. For someone unsure of themselves, these statements may actually be more powerful than one may realize.

The key here is to not give up on what you believe to be true for yourself. Giving up on yourself only let’s their voices rule your own. Only you know what you are really good at or enjoy doing with your life. It helps to have people support you and believe in you, but if you don’t have that, you can still go on and accomplish your goals. Know that you will meet people along the way that will share your goals and even offer you support. But don’t wait for the support to be there before you pursue your venture. Let the belief begin with you.

Our life challenge is to secure a balance within ourselves and our surroundings. We are faced with so many interferences on a daily basis that challenge our beliefs and our characters. Maybe you have friends swaying you to stay in a certain place or job. There could be family members discouraging your career aspirations. Despite their influence the only person you have to worry about focusing on pleasing is you. Remember you are ultimately the one who has to live with the consequences not them. Distinguish what your wants and needs are from theirs’. Listen to your intuition as it is a voice all on its own.

Everyone is different and therefore our goals and ideas in life are different. Realize that your goals in life will perform a specific task in our society. As long as your thoughts are pure and nobody including yourself is to be harmed then you are accomplishing something for the overall good of our society as a whole.

When we realize the importance and the value of pursuing our own purpose, others opinions of what we want to do become overshadowed. At times however, you may feel it helps to have additional sources of positive reinforcement, but be careful who you choose to ask. Often we seek someone’s approval that realistically we would never get regardless of what we do. Remember that opinions are not laws that were intended to construct how we live our lives. They are simply another person’s view of our lives.

Other people’s opinions of our goals can provide insight, but that does not always mean that their insight is valid. Use your own judgment and know that it is ok to disagree with someone’s opinion even if done quietly. If you do disagree with them, ask yourself why. After evaluation, you may even find a different facet of your own goal or opinion that you didn’t see before. Use the disagreement to your benefit. You will often find that what you will acquire is the strength to begin developing your goals.
