Why You Ought to Go and View the Mamma Mia Musical Show
Saturday 14 August 2010 @ 10:23 am

The worldwide hit musical show Mamma Mia is best seen in the West End simply because of affordability, professionalism, safety and variety of other things to do. The West End has the UKs finest skill. Public transportation is also obtainable so the car can be left at home.

You would have to be living under a rock not to have been told about the hit musical Mamma Mia, structured on the music of Swedish pop legends ABBA. Although production of Mamma Mia can be discovered from coast to coast all over the UK ever since the initial performance in 1999, the best place to watch it is Londons West End.

Best Affordability.

It is a frequent false impression that the might of a musical stands on its plot and tunes. If that was true, then there would be no reason for anybody to attend the West End or even across the Pond to Broadway when the local drama club is putting together a show. Production in the West End have the highest calibre of talent, special effects and professionalism. If you buy a ticket for a musical show at the West End, that musical is going to go on, whatever.

Now contrast this to musicals performed in theatres aside from the West End. Even with the same dance routines and costume, the impact is a pale imitation at best. As the recent Hollywood movie Mamma Mia! The Movie (2008) demonstrated, not even Hollywoods best could do suitable justice to the musical show. Though ABBA songs are catchy, they are unbelievably hard to sing. Just watch poor Pierce Brosnan have difficulty with SOS in the film. Even better, skip the film and book a journey to the West End.

Safety, Variety and Transport.

Ever arrive at your holiday location and find out there are not any buses or trains? Or if they are, they only work once daily and you missed it? This is one problem you never have to face in London. You do not even need to bring your car in order to get about. All UK railway lines certainly end up in London.

As the West End is the classy region, a lot of money has been spent to keep all of the upper class actors and divas satisfied when they work at the West End or attend the shows of their friends. The West End is well provided with CCTV cameras that function 24 hours a day. The West End is normally better lit than more other dodgy locations of London.

So, you have seen the musical and it was great. Now what are you going to do? Sit in your hotel room for hours on end and stare out of the window? In a lot of other towns, that is your only alternative. But the West End is filled with restaurants and shops so that there is often something to do before and after the musical show. If one restaurant is booked solid for the night, dont worry about it ” there is always another to select from.

Five Motives to See the Lion King Musical
Monday 21 June 2010 @ 10:32 am

Disney’s stageshow adaptation of the much loved classic ‘The Lion King’ is now on show in London’s West End. The show fuses singing, dancing together with stunning scenery and costumes to create a dazzling show. Audiences will enjoy hearing recognizable tracks from the film, in addition to several brand new songs written specifically for the musical rendition. All things considered, the Lion King Musical gives amazing entertainment for all age ranges. In the early 1990s, it seemed like the market of theatre was falling down. Together with the expenses of presenting a musical theatre show increased massively, few people were eager to pay for costly theatre tickets when they could just as simply visit the movie theatre for a fraction of the price. Thankfully, Disney rescued the struggling Broadway market, first with a stageshow version of Beauty in the Beast, and next a show of the Lion King. Now, this flamboyant modern musical can be seen at a range of venues, including the Lyceum Theatre, found in London’s West End. Here are five reasons why you should be present at this stunning show. 1. Appealing to All Age groups Evidently, the Lion King is a success with kids. But the rhythmic music and sophisticated storyline makes it an engaging performance for grownups also. Young adults will take pleasure in reliving memories of the first time they saw the film as kids. 2. Award Winner The Lion King has been given a number of recognized awards, including eleven Drama Desk awards and six Tony awards. It was also nominated for a further five Tony awards. Any production that is the receiver of this many awards is evidently worth experiencing. 3. Brand-new Songs Everyone is in love with the songs from the movie edition of the Lion King. A lot of the favourites from the film are incorporated that you can sing along with, such as ‘Be Prepared,’ ‘Circle of Life,’ ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King,’ and ‘Hakuna Matata,’ are included in the West End stageshow. But there are also numerous brand-new songs that were constructed for the musical edition. These new songs include ‘Endless Night,’ ‘Shadowland,’ and ‘One By One.’ 4. Stunning Costumes One might wonder how a musical stageshow of the Lion King is able to represent animals along the lines of giraffes and zebras while using human beings as actors. This accomplishment was achieved together with the help of several excellent costume designers. It is interesting to see the costumes, which are both complex and straightforward. The awesome thing about these costumes is that they are able to to convey human characteristics while holding onto vital animalistic elements. This anthropomorphic balance between animal and human helps keep the story believable. 5. Unique Scenery There a range of complicated scenes in the Lion King that may not work without the use of advanced scenery and props. One such scene is the stampede, during which wildebeast props on rollers create an effective feeling of danger with the animals racing towards you giving the illusion of depth. With great music, lovely costumes and unique scenery, the Lion King musical is one of the most entertaining shows in decades. A must see for adults and children alike! Xenite.Org Interviews SF Writer Tad Williams
Wednesday 7 April 2010 @ 1:56 am

Author Tad Williams has published books for over 20 years.Tad Williams just published his latest novel, Shadowrise, in March 2010. He is now on a whirlwind media blitz promoting the book, which is the third in the Shadowmarch series. His latest interview is with the popular science fiction and fantasy site Xenite.Org.

In a special feature article, “An Interview with Tad Williams”, the fans at Xenite probe deep into the author’s thoughts about all things science, fantasy, Internet, and publishing. Known for his innovative story themes and active online presence, Williams has been a pace-setter for the science fiction and fantasy genre in several ways. His work has inspired fans across the world.

And in a moment of life imitating art, Williams’ own online creation — the Shadowmarch world — has taken on a life of its own with the four-book series. Starting out as a serial online story, Shadowmarch moved into traditional print publishing after Williams decided he could reach more fans through paper than electrons.

Nonetheless, the author feels the day of the electronic novel is coming. Although he makes no solid prediction of where or when the Internet will replace the 500-year-old print medium, he seems to be banking on a relatively swift move to online publishing in the near future. It will just take a little more experimentation by bold writers and publishers who are willing to challenge the centuries-long traditions that some die-hards are determined to stick with.

The Xenite.Org interview reveals a thoughtful side of the writer that rarely emerges in promotional interviews. Far less attention is devoted to the new book — which has been written about extensively in other interview articles — in favor of a close-up look at the man himself. New fans will learn more about Williams’ career from this one article than from reading most fan sites.

The Music Video for Fireflies by Owl City Is a Reasonably down to Earth Affair Featuring Owl City, a. K. A. Adam Young, Alone in His Bedroom with His Keyboard
Friday 26 March 2010 @ 6:34 am

Yesterday evening, I had the strangest dream. There had been Shaquille O’Neal, standing in the snow, quizzically looking upward to the heavens. Then I realized I was wide awake and I was just watching the new Owl City video for Vanilla Twilight. Man, what a difference a few million downloads make. The music video for Fireflies by Owl City is a reasonably down home affair featuring Owl City , a.k.a.Adam Young, alone in his bedroom with his keyboard and his toys that comes to life like some in some benign Twilight Zone episode. Now, his label has invested in an out of doors shoot, lots of CGI effects and an NBA mega star. I actually can’t for the life of me work out what he is doing there and based on O’Neal’s bemused expression, neither is he able to. You either like Owl City’s excessively dear, twee vibe or you do not, there is, however, something enchanting about his uncynical, mawkish look at love and life and nature. Actually , who else above the age of fifteen can convincingly deliver the line, as many times as I blink I may think about you tonight. I do not even think Justin Bieber can get away with that one. Vanilla Twilight is an excellent example of a video taking a straight-ahead song about missing somebody you adore and turning it into something much larger.

Relying on how you need to translate it, thru the video the track becomes a much bigger meditation on death and the signs that family can send us after they shuffle off this mortal coil. In this example, the loved one is sending a massive cuddle via a beautiful nightfall that looks like of like the Northerly Lights.

Even the wretched dog in the video can tell what is going on here, can’t you, Fido? Watch it below, but we warn you, you could need to put on a winter coat. It’s pretty cold where you are headed. Or as Owl Town sings : This cold nostalgia chills me to the bone..

“Now I am very frightened about going out in public and I don’t know where the next attack will come from.”

According to court documents, the pop star was left with redness and swelling to the face, and whiplash symptoms after being punched by Kowalczyk, reports Contactmusic. Great Deal from FiOS TV - Value for Your Money
Sunday 9 August 2009 @ 7:36 pm

At last, my location got access to the latest in broadcast alternatives, and we recently connected to Verizon’s latest Fiber-optic FIOS TV. It could be installed only last week though I signed up early this month, thanks to the lot more people waiting for it in my State. At the present time, we were hooked up with FIOS internet, which provided 15MB downstream as well as upstream (a premium service for an additional monthly fee of $10) and have found myself very satisfied with it.

Installation to connect my TV was a breeze because I currently had internet with Verizon FIOS. The technician installed the cables by taking my existing coax splitter and splitting the signal before the router. Once inside, the coax splits and goes into all the rooms and then one of the downstream cables connects with the Verizon Internet Router’s Coax. From that point the router communicated TCP/IP over RJ-45 and provides the house, but this is also used to assign IP addresses to the DVR over coax. A DVR is known as a Digital Video Recorder. It allows you to record programs to a hard disk for viewing later. that comes included along with your FIOS TV bundle.

While the interface is really intuitive, in addition it comes with lots of innovative shortcuts that you’ll find while using it. For instance, while viewing TV, choose one of the direction indicators on the controls to take you (this can be done as a shortcut) to a variety of functions, instantaneously. For example, pressing the up button takes you to the TV Guide split screen mode with the TV picture shown on the left, and pressing the down button takes you to the half-screen floating TV guide. If you press “Guide” a single time, it delivers the full-screen menu, while hitting it two times takes you to a split-screen. Pressing the button marked “Info” once will give you a small pop up with information about the TV show you’re watching and hitting it again will give you full-screen information.

The DVR can store approximately 17 hours of HD TV or 60 hours of standard TV. (Similar Defintion) or whichever combination of options you choose. Like with the majority of DVR devices, it is possible to adjust every recording as “protected”. (not deleted in an automatic manner) You may fix yourself in a queue with the last x recordings. It’s possible to choose just the latest programs, or every show, with reruns included.

The price for core package is 43$ a month. For this you get several DVR options ranging from standard HD, standard DVR and HD DVR. Cable was costing us close to $60 and we don’t watch enough TV to justify spending that much. Premium channels cost the same as with cable, most likely since HBO and Showtime set their own costs, rather than the provider.

We have been very pleased with the results. It is my opinion that the first month of Verizon FIOS TV in my state has set the stage right for its great progress. It is recommended over local cable if you can get it.

It’s already on many of the radio stations, you might say. Well, not like this.

The National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico (Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico) has been playing classical music from that country and many others since 1928, and Las Vegas was fortunate enough to have a visit from them on their latest U.S. tour. My date and I walked in without checking to see what they would be playing this night. We opened our programs and found…

COPLAND!

My favorite. ‘El Salon Mexico’ was written by a young Aaron Copland after a visit to that country in 1932 and named after a famous Mexico City dance hall. This terrific overture-length piece reflects the spirit Copland felt there: it sways romantically, stomps playfully, and even seems to prance grandly about (though the men there might never admit to prancing). I was surprised at the sedate pace at which some parts of it were played. It was as if the revelers were tired and needed a rest between dances.

Speaking of needing a rest, Enrique Arturo Diemecke has been conductor and music director of this orchestra and that of Flint, Michigan since 1990 and of the Long Beach Symphony since 2001. (And you thought your commute was rough.) The program describes him as “a popular guest conductor.” No kidding! Take every classical music organization that ever existed, add three, and that’s how many groups for whom Maestro Diemecke has guest-conducted, it would seem from his bio. Doesn’t the word “siesta” come from Mexico?

Diemecke was nominated in 2002 for a Latin Grammy for “Best Classical Album,” and his version of ‘La Coronela’, by Silvestre Revueltas, is considered one of the best ever recorded. However, this orchestra, like most, plays a broad range of music. ‘La Coronela’ would be played tonight, but next on the program was the Symphonic Dances from “Westside Story,” by Leonard Bernstein. Because I have never seen this musical, I speak from the wonderful purity of total ignorance. What a fun piece! The ‘Prologue’, ‘Meeting Scene’, and ‘Cool, Fugue’ movements had a swinging, jazzy sound and an air of both mystery and mischief that reminded me of the Pink Panther cartoon character in a zoot suit.

Then there was the playful plucking of violin strings in the ‘Scherzo’, the zesty chaos of ‘Mambo’, the intense action of ‘Rumble’, and the surprisingly calm sweetness of ‘Cha-cha’. The piece was further spiced by the use of a whistle, snapping fingers, and well-timed shouts by the musicians. I could picture the strutting, fighting, dancing, and smooching in the streets. It ended with a very graceful high note by the violins set off by a brooding growl from the low strings, which told me the musical must have had a sad and rather unsettled ending. Somebody tell me if I’m right.

I saw two things for the first time tonight. First, I’ve seen plenty of trumpet mutes, but a mute in a tuba? It reminded my date of a huge earplug sticking out of the instrument’s flared bell, and it looked to me like a silver beer keg. (I always go out with dames that are classier than I am.) Second, Maestro Diemecke conducted without a baton. Instead, he made very good use of his hands, posture, and facial expressions to get exactly what he wanted from his performers. It was great fun to watch.

The final music on the program was the signature piece I mentioned earlier, Revueltas’ ‘La Coronela’ (’The Woman Colonel’). I have never heard a musical work more at odds with its program description. The first movement, ‘Society Ladies’, started out nervous and finished like an intense battle scene from the old “Victory at Sea” films! What was in that champagne I drank at intermission? Next, the ‘Dance of the Disinherited’ should bring to mind poverty and despair, but the music started off serene and gradually became as light and fluffy as a scherzo; it seemed to involve dancing “rurales” and no small amount of cerveza. Third, ‘Don Ferruco’s Nightmare’, sounded peaceful, but at least it grew in intensity as it came to the part about The Woman Colonel herself. (Maybe ‘Coronela’ actually means “battle-axe.”) I couldn’t even tell where we were in the piece until the music suddenly hit a big crescendo and told me that we had reached the fourth movement, ‘Last Judgement’. It started
